How long has the company been in business?
Two generations of painters has been painting homes in the greater Tyler area since 1978, and our painters are the best quality painters in East Texas.
What do I have to do in order to get ready for the painters?
When we come in to paint your home, we are expecting to handle everything ourselves; Cover the floor, protect furnishings and take off switch plates and remove window treatments. We do offer a setup discount of 5% off the total cost of the job if you would like to set the areas up for painting yourself.
Do you apply one or two coats?
Two coat applications are always better on exteriors (longevity); interiors generally only require one coat of primer and one top coat.
My friend has this color in their house that I like; can I use it in my house, and will look the same?
We can get the same color, but keep in my mind that every house is different and the color may not look the same or have the effect in your home as it does in theirs. Obtain a sample quart and paint an area approx. 6'x6' in few different sections and check how it will look in your home. Lighting, carpet, furniture, and other factors may give it a different look in your home.
How long will the paint smell last inside my house? Is it harmful?
Depending on the type of paint used in your home. All paints have some odor, however, environmentally friendly paints are available, and almost all paints are safe.
Do you replace the rotten wood and what type of wood do you use?
Yes, rotting wood is like a cancer; it must be taken out, or it will spread. All replaced wood should be treated or the new Hardi material whenever possible.
What causes mildew on my home, and how can I get rid of it?
Mildew is caused by moisture penetrating wood or siding either through caulking gaps or paint failure. Washing your home will temporarily relieve your problems. The only way to solve this problem long term is by properly re-caulking and repainting with quality paints with added mold inhibitors.
Why is the wood rotting?
Water penetration and mildew causes rot and are only stopped by caulking and repainting.
What is the difference between a brush and roll application versus a sprayed application?
Contrary to popular belief, spray application is by far and away superior to brush and roll. Paint application is measured in thickness of paint known as "mils". It takes three applications of roller to equal the mils applied in one spray application.
What kind of paint do you use?
We use all major brands of paint; however, we recommend Sherwin Williams.
What kind of surface preparation is done?
All holes are filled and sanded. All cracks are properly scraped out, filled and sanded. Caulking is inspected around all windows and frames, doors and door frames and re-caulked as needed. Crown molding, chair rail etc. are all caulked and properly prepared. Nail holes filled. Any water stains, crayon marks etc. are sealed before painting and grease marks and heavy dirt accumulations are cleaned. Any mildew that is present will be cleaned prior to painting.
How many painters will be in my home?
While every job is different, normally you can expect a crew of 3-4 painters
I have received a number of estimates from different paint contractors and there seems to be a wide variance in price, why is that?
There are a number of good paint contractors to choose from and what you will normally find is that the established companies are usually fairly close in price. However, at times you will get an estimate that is a lot lower than others. There could be many factors here. Is the company B.B.B member in good standing? Insured? Do they own the equipment or do they rent? Do they pay taxes? Are they legal? Do they perform back ground checks? Drug test workers? This is all overhead that costs a substantial amount of money.
Do I need to stay at home while work is being performed?
No, our painters have been with the company for an average of 5 years. We also drug test and perform a background checks on all our workers. Your home is safe!
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes we do - MasterCard, Visa, Discover , and American Express are gladly accepted.
